Come learn how The Balsam School is working to integrate curriculum within our outdoor and community based experiences, and about some of the core routines that help us teach effectively in settings all around our city. This a great opportunity to learn from our mistakes and successes, and many of our core routines can be artfully used by teachers wanting to get outdoors in other school settings!
The Balsam School's approach to the BC curriculum mixes high quality indoor learning time with learning in nature and in the community. We partner with Regional Parks (RDCO), the Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna Museums, the Rotary Centre for the Arts, Chef Scott Nystrom of ' The Nourished Chef' and Alchemy Bread, and many others. The Balsam School runs on a seasonal schedule with as much as 15-20 hours outdoors per week in the summertime, to 8 or more hours/week in the depths of winter. Balsam students know that when they leave their indoor school environment, they are not leaving their learning environment - learning can happen anywhere!
